Day 1 - Asmara
  • Arrival in Asmara. Your guides will be at the airport to pick you up.​
  • Check into our hotel before starting a walking tour of Asmara – a Unesco World Heritage City.
  • Stroll down the main the main drag, Harnett Street. Visit the the Post office – built in 1916, the presidential palace built in 1907, and the Hotel Hamassien built in 1916.
  • Stop by the famous Fiat Tagliero building, an incredible example of Art Deco architecture.
  • Check out the main market in Asmara with lots of iron, copper and glass workers.
  • Step inside the Cinema Impero and Cinema Roma, more Art Deco pieces of history. 
  • Visit the huge tank graveyard. This place is littered with relics from the war of independence against Ethiopia.
  • Visit the old Italian cemetery overlooking the city.
  • Dinner & ​overnight in Asmara.
Day 2 - Massawa
  • After breakfast, we’ll check out and embark on a journey towards the Red Sea coast, where the charming port city of Massawa awaits.
  • Follow the route of the old Italian steam trains down to Nefasit. We’ll stop at the old train station here and admire the stunning mountain views before continuing onto the coast.
  • On arrival in Massawa stop at the 3 Tanks Monument, next to our hotel. It commemorates the 3 types of tanks that were instrumental in the city’s liberation from Ethiopian rule.
  • Massawa is a city that has been among the area’s most important ports for centuries. With its elegant Turkish-Egyptian-Italian style architecture, shop fronts, stunning mosques, and delicious fish and shellfish – Massawa is the perfect location to cater to all interests.
  • Dinner at the “Salam Restaurant”- Famous for its fresh fish prepared in a traditional oven. Follow it up with drinks in the heart of the Ottoman quarter. 
  • Overnight in the iconic Grand Dahlak Hotel Massawa.
Day 3 - Red Sea
  • Morning boat trip to Green Island, the most accessible island in the Dahlak Archipelago from Massawa. We’ll swim or snorkel from its white sandy beaches.
  • In the afternoon, drive back to Asmara uphill while enjoying the magnificent scenery and lush vegetation all the way, if time allows, with stops on the way.
  • Visit the retro 75-year-old bowling alley and other sites and souvenir shops we may have missed on the first day.
  • Dinner and overnight in Asmara.

Day 4 - Keren

  • We start our journey to Keren early in the morning, travelling via the major Asmara–Keren highway through the town of Serejeqa.
  • Keren is the second-largest city in Eritrea and it’s famed for its huge weekly market.
  • The town is located around 91 kilometres northwest of Asmara at an elevation of 1,390 meters above sea level. The fine tarmac road, built by the Italians, is like a hairpin curved out from mountainous plateaus.
  • Visit the Italian and Commonwealth war cemeteries. In 1941, Keren was the site of some of the fiercest battles between the Allied and the Italian forces. The fall of Keren to the Allies signalled the end of the Italian occupation of Eritrea.
  • Visit The famous Mariam Dearit temple carved out of a Baobab tree.
  • Stroll around the old town centre stopping off in cafes.
  • Dinner & overnight in Keren.

Day 5 - Departure

  • Transfer to the airport. End of Eritrea tour.

For flights into Asmara, the main gateways are Cairo, Dubai & Addis Ababa.

USD and Euro are both accepted in currency exchanges. Make sure to bring cash.

Our maximum group size is 12 people.

Eritrea can be considered a safe destination to visit, however this can change due to the shifting geopolitical situation in the Horn of Africa. We research the security of our destinations and safety is a priority, however we also advise you to do your own research as well to ensure you are comfortable with your trip.

The internet is very poor in Eritrea and wifi will only be available in internet cafes. It is barely fast enough to send emails.
