Explore Beautiful Papua New Guinea With Our Tours
Papua New Guinea is not only a gorgeous place, it has a fascinating history. Located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, it’s been inhabited for at least 50,000 years and today its indigenous peoples speak over 800 different languages. It’s a wonderful location if you’re fascinated by both people and biodiversity.
Our tours are ideal for those who are passionate about different cultures. We enable you to experience the Mount Hagen and Goroka festivals, which are an unforgettable experience for any traveller.
More about the festivals.
Both Mount Hagen and Goroka celebrate the rich traditions of the indigenous tribes in the region.
The Mount Hagen Cultural Show has its origins in the early 1960s, originally being created to bring together the tribes of the Western Highlands Province, who had been at war in the past. The festival is famous for its ‘singsing’ performance, with tribes dressing in striking traditional attire.
A rare glimpse into an ancient culture.
A captivating spectacle of colour and dance, this is one of the highlights of our tours. You will see tribe members painted with body paint, feathers and elaborate headdresses. Brimming with energy and life, the tribes aim to outdo one another in their striking appearance and dances. You’ll be joining an event that attracts people from all over the world.
Our tours in Papua New Guinea also enable you to experience the Goroka Festival (Goroka Show). Older than the Mount Hagen Festival, it dates to 1957 and was also introduced to reduce conflicts between tribes.
Like the Mount Hagen Festival, the Goroka Show features “singsings” with traditional dances, music and incredible tribal costumes.
However, performances are more intimate because the Goroka Show typically attracts slightly fewer participants and visitors. This event takes place annually around mid-September, coinciding with Papua New Guinea’s Independence Day (September 16), making it a central part of the national celebrations.
